The Qatar branch of Patriotic National Movement (PNM) was formed with the participation of a large crowd of patriotic Sri Lankans domiciled in that country in a dignified ceremony held at the premises of Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha on 9th November, 2007.

The proceedings began with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp and a two minutes silence was observed to honour the heroes who made the supreme sacrifice to defend the independence of the Motherland.

Before the office bearers for the branch were elected an advisory board consisting of active intellectuals was elected.
